A mortal woman is pulled into the dangerous politics of Lust’s demon realm, where power is seductive, bargains come with a cost, and survival depends on wit as much as strength. The Demon Court is a fantasy romance filled with court intrigue, slow-burn tension, and a world where monsters rule—and not all of them are what they seem.
I absolutely loved The Demon Court. From the start, the story felt immersive, emotional, and incredibly well-paced. This is one of those fantasy novels that reminded me why I love the genre — strong characters, meaningful arcs, and a world that unfolds naturally without overwhelming the reader.

Character Arcs That Truly Shine
One of the standout elements of this book is the character development. The arcs are satisfying, layered, and emotionally engaging. Watching the characters grow, struggle, and change felt organic rather than forced. Their motivations made sense, their flaws felt real, and their growth added real weight to the story. It made me deeply invested in their journeys.
Familiar Magic, Executed Beautifully
While the magic system itself isn’t entirely new — especially for readers who consume a lot of fantasy — that never felt like a drawback. Emma Hamm doesn’t rely on the magic alone to carry the story. Instead, the magic enhances the narrative, supports the character development, and deepens the stakes. It’s woven into the story in a way that feels purposeful and enriching rather than gimmicky.
Worldbuilding Done the Right Way

The worldbuilding in The Demon Court is handled exceptionally well. It unfolds naturally through the characters’ experiences rather than through heavy exposition. I especially loved that we get to see the world from both main characters’ perspectives — it adds depth, contrast, and a fuller understanding of the setting and its rules. When fantasy worldbuilding feels this seamless, it’s always a win.
Final Thoughts
The Demon Court is a very well-done fantasy novel with strong characters, thoughtful worldbuilding, and a compelling story that stands on its own strengths. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and will absolutely be continuing the series, even if I don’t end up talking about the later books here. This one is well worth picking up if you enjoy character-driven fantasy with immersive worlds and emotional depth.
